Hyperion is the tallest tree in the world, a Sequoia sempervirens of northern California whose height has been ascertained to be 115.66 meters.

It was discovered on September 8, 2006 by naturalists Chris Atkins and Michael Taylor in the Redwood National Park.
\n<\/span>Its exact location has not been revealed to prevent an excessive presence of visitors from damaging the surrounding ecosystem.

Despite its height, it is not the largest tree in terms of volume. <\/span>This record belongs to General Sherman, a sequoia of the Sequoia National Park 83.8 meters high with a diameter (at the base) of 11.10 meters, whose volume was calculated at 1.487 m3. <\/span>Conversely, the volume of Hyperion is estimated at 502 m3.
\n<\/span>Previously the height record belonged to the Helios sequoia, 114.30 meters high, also located in the Redwood National Park.
