We know very little about them. <\/span>The few contacts that sharpened with man have not always been peaceful. <\/span>These are the most dangerous things in the world and, therefore, the most vulnerable. <\/span>They are the Sentinelese, a people living on North Sentinel, an island as big as Manhattan located in the Bay of Bengal, or the northeastern part of the Indian Ocean.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a world in which the constant urbanization and industrialization takes away more and more, it is decidedly unusual to hear about someone who has been living isolated for millennia, avoiding any voluntary contact with the surrounding world.<\/span><\/p>\n

We know very little about their uses and customs. <\/span>The number of Sentinelese varies from 40 to 400 people who, surviving the tsunami of 2004, still defend themselves with arrows, attacking anyone who gets too close to the coast: in 2006 two incautious fishermen reached North Sentinel and, getting too close to the beach, felt killed <\/span>by some members of the Sentinelese tribe.<\/span><\/p>\n

From the aerial shots it seems that it is a population of hunters, fishermen and gatherers: it seems that they do not know agriculture and, despite their habits and knowledge have changed step by step, has reached the stone age stops.<\/span><\/p>\n

But let’s try to find out something more about this people so far from us. <\/span>To do so we will explore the surroundings of North Sentinel and, in particular, the archipelago of which it is part, that of the Andaman Islands. <\/span>An archipelago made up of about 576 islands and islets, this territory has been inhabited for thousands of years by various indigenous peoples. <\/span>Among these, to date, only Sentinelesi have managed to avoid any contact with the world defined as “civilized”.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Great Andamanians, for example, were literally decimated after the discovery of the islands they lived in: delayed colonization by the British, which began in 1858, bacilli such as measles, influenza or syphilis were fatal to a long-standing people <\/span>lived isolated. <\/span>Then we find the last, inhabitants of the southernmost island of the Andaman archipelago. <\/span>Also decimated after the landing of the British and the Indian settlers, today the population of the Ongelli lives in a small reserve and has just over 100 people. <\/span>The Jarawa, however, have contact with the outside only since 1998 and, although many today, could be decimated by the most common diseases, from which until now have remained protected.<\/span><\/p>\n

Given the fate of the neighboring populations, the theme for which I sentinelesi has been included in the list of peoples is clear: it is an initiative of Survival International, the only organization that today deals with the protection and survival of the tribes. <\/span>indigenous.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is thanks to the work of Surprise International that the Indian authorities, which legally and geographically “belong” to the island, have put aside their contact projects with the Sentinelese. <\/span>Although you do not find, in fact, attempts at contact with the people of North Sentinel have been various in the past. <\/span>The first occurred in the mid-1800s when a British official, M.V. <\/span>Portman, disembarked on the remote island with the purpose of contacting the population. <\/span>Scouring North Sentinel the explorers managed to find only an elderly couple and some children who, in the name of science, were removed from the island. <\/span>The seniors got sick and died shortly after Once decanted, a new disease was introduced later.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the following years the visits were less frequent and the few contacts were not peaceful: the explorers, although faced with them, were received in a violent way. <\/span>The only peaceful contact, which is also witnessed by video, was in 1991. Sentinelesi made themselves understood to be waiting for gifts, in front of the explorers, they entered the water in the direction of the visitors stationed on the boats. <\/span>Since 1996 contacts have been interrupted and the hope is that I have felt living in health and prosperity for centuries to come.<\/span><\/p>\n

Die Gro\u00dfen Andamanier zum Beispiel wurden nach der Entdeckung der Inseln, in denen sie lebten, buchst\u00e4blich dezimiert: Die verz\u00f6gerte Kolonialisierung durch die Briten, die 1858 begann, Bazillen wie Masern, Influenza oder Syphilis t\u00f6teten ein seit langem isoliert lebendes Volk. <\/span>Dann finden wir die letzten Bewohner der s\u00fcdlichsten Insel des Andaman-Archipels. <\/span>Nach der Landung der britischen und indischen Siedler ebenfalls dezimiert, lebt die Bev\u00f6lkerung der Ongelli heute in einem kleinen Reservat und hat etwas mehr als 100 Einwohner. <\/span>Die Jarawa haben jedoch erst seit 1998 Kontakt mit dem \u00c4u\u00dferen und konnten, obwohl viele heute, durch die h\u00e4ufigsten Krankheiten dezimiert werden, von denen bis heute gesch\u00fctzt wurde.<\/span><\/p>\n

Angesichts des Schicksals der Nachbarbev\u00f6lkerung ist das Thema, f\u00fcr das ich Sentinelesi in die Liste der V\u00f6lker aufgenommen habe, eindeutig: Es handelt sich um eine Initiative von Survival International, der einzigen Organisation, die sich heute mit dem Schutz und dem \u00dcberleben der St\u00e4mme befasst. <\/span>einheimisch.<\/span><\/p>\n

Der Arbeit von Surprise International ist es zu verdanken, dass die indischen Beh\u00f6rden, die rechtlich und geografisch der Insel angeh\u00f6ren, ihre Kontaktprojekte mit den Sentinelesen aufgeben. <\/span>Obwohl Sie in der Tat keine Kontaktversuche mit den Menschen in North Sentinel finden, gab es in der Vergangenheit verschiedene Versuche. <\/span>Die erste ereignete sich in der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts, als ein britischer Beamter, M.V. <\/span>Portman landete auf der abgelegenen Insel, um die Bev\u00f6lkerung zu kontaktieren. <\/span>Bei der Suche nach North Sentinel gelang es den Forschern, nur ein \u00e4lteres Ehepaar und einige Kinder zu finden, die im Namen der Wissenschaft von der Insel vertrieben wurden. <\/span>Die Senioren wurden krank und starben kurz nach dem Abgestrichen wurde sp\u00e4ter eine neue Krankheit eingef\u00fchrt.<\/span><\/p>\n

In den folgenden Jahren fanden die Besuche weniger h\u00e4ufig statt und die wenigen Kontakte waren nicht friedlich: Die Entdecker wurden, obwohl sie ihnen gegen\u00fcberstanden, auf gewaltt\u00e4tige Weise empfangen. <\/span>Der einzige friedliche Kontakt, den man auch per Video beobachten kann, war 1991. Sentinelesi lie\u00df es sich verstehen, auf Geschenke zu warten. Vor den Entdeckern gingen sie in Richtung der auf den Booten stationierten Besucher ins Wasser. <\/span>Seit 1996 wurden die Kontakte unterbrochen und ich hoffe, dass ich mich seit Jahrhunderten in Gesundheit und Wohlstand f\u00fchlte.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kami hanya tahu sedikit tentang kegunaan dan kebiasaan mereka. <\/span>Jumlah Sentinelese bervariasi dari 40 hingga 400 orang yang selamat dari tsunami tahun 2004, masih mempertahankan diri dengan panah, menyerang siapa saja yang terlalu dekat dengan pantai: pada tahun 2006 dua nelayan yang tidak berhati-hati mencapai Sentinel Utara dan, terlalu dekat ke pantai. <\/span>, merasa terbunuh oleh beberapa anggota suku Sentinelese.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dari foto-foto udara tampaknya itu adalah populasi pemburu, nelayan dan pengumpul: tampaknya mereka tidak tahu pertanian dan, meskipun kebiasaan dan pengetahuan mereka telah berubah selangkah demi selangkah, telah mencapai usia batu berhenti.<\/span><\/p>\n
