The absolute masterpiece by Pietro Piffetti<\/strong><\/p>\n

Signed and dated, as written in the center of the limelight “Petrus Piffetti Inve.\/ fecit et sculpsit \/ Taurini 1738”, the extraordinary double body is considered by international critics “the most beautiful piece of furniture in the world”.<\/p>\n

It is a sumptuous explosion of mixtilinear forms, veneered and embellished with ivory and turtle inlays, showing scenes translated largely from famous engravings of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
\nAn imposing work, characterized by multiple and complex iconographic sources, commissioned for a wedding, an event to which not only the phrase “PERPETVVM NODIS” alludes, but also numerous symbols, such as the soaring Cupid armed with bow and arrows or significant scenes, among which a marriage stands out, probably that of Alessandro and Rossana, which takes place in front of the statue of Apollo citaredo.<\/p>\n

In all the furniture, the masculine-feminine \/ sun-moon principle emerges: inside the central doors, there is a poetic decoration with the moon on a blue background, to recall for us an even spousal secret; constant is the presence of Apollo and Diana both depicted in a hunting lodge or environment. The central scene is magnificent with Diana sleeping next to a nymph and her dogs, a sort of collage of images taken from the prestigious series of engravings that Cornelis Bloemaert and Giovanni Jacopo de Rubeis forged, drawing them from the frescoes created by Piero da Cortona for the halls of Venus and Jupiter of Palazzo Pitti.<\/p>\n

It is a double
\nbody made in 1738, by the Italian cabinetmaker of the royal court of Savoy, PIETRO PIFFETTI (Turin, 17 August 1701 – Turin, 20 May 1777), who was the king’s cabinetmaker for 45 years.<\/p>\n

In 1731, he was appointed first court cabinetmaker by King Carlo Emanuele III. He will be considered until his death, the most important Savoy cabinetmaker of the time.<\/p>\n

The double body of Pietro Piffetti, is considered by critics as “the most beautiful piece of furniture in the world”: not for a purely aesthetic factor, but for the boldness of the forms and the incredible mastery with which it is made, without the use of nails, but only of joints which, after almost 300 years, hold up perfectly.
\nIt is a piece of furniture with fine ivory, mother of pearl and turtle inlays.<\/p>\n

Depicted with these extraordinary materials there are scenes translated largely from famous 16th and 17th century engravings. The piece of furniture was commissioned for a wedding as shown by the phrase “PERPETVVM NODIS” and by the numerous symbols praising love like the classic Cupid armed with a bow and arrows and some wedding scenes like the one between Alessandro and Rossane, which takes place in front of the statue of Apollo cititaredo.<\/p>\n

The double-body is owned by the Accorsi-Ometto Museum of Turin, where you can admire along with other splendid Piffetti furniture.<\/p>\n
