Haji is an 80-year-old Iranian who lives as a hermit in the village of Dezhgah in the Dehram district of the province of Fars in Iran and leads a life so simple and modest that he never washes. In fact, Haji entered the Guinness Book of Records as the dirtiest man in the world: in fact, the man has been refusing to wash for 60 years. He also likes to smoke a pipe but, instead of classic tobacco, he puts animal excrements there, but every now and then he gives himself a few cigarettes, five at the same time to be precise. To cut his hair he does not use scissors or razors, like a common mortal, but he burns them with an open flame.<\/p>\n
Man does not live in a permanent home because he considers the land he walks to be home. For this reason he lives in a hole on the ground, very similar to a grave, which keeps him in contact with the reality of life. The villagers out of pity built a brick shack specifically for him: Haji uses it occasionally in case of rain.<\/p>\n
The inhabitants themselves say they are not bothered by the presence of man, rather they call him “Amou Haji” (“Amou” in their language indicates a kind elderly man). Apparently Haji in his youth had serious problems that led him to make these extreme choices. Despite everything, he seems much happier, happier and carefree than many people who live having all the comforts and conveniences of this world.<\/p>\n
