Are there still little-known aspects of Hitler’s life? here they are
1- The mustache? Fashionable. Squared mustache, officer whip and raincoat tight at the waist: these are the elements of Adolf Hitler’s look. But his was not so much a personal choice of style. In fact, he wore a long mustache as a young man, according to the fashion of the early 1900s. When he joined the army (during the First World War) he was forced to thin them out in order to better wear the supplied gas masks. And then he kept them that way, following the new prevailing fashion.
Instead, it was his friend Dietrich Eckart, a prominent member of the secret society Thule (first nucleus of the Nazi party) who made him abandon the clothes scruffy by bohemian in favor of a more martial outfit.
2 – Were your ancestors Jewish? Was Hitler Jewish? The issue is controversial. Already in the past it had been assumed that Hitler’s father, Alois, was the illegitimate son of a maid, Maria Schickelgruber, and of a young Jew with whom he served, but these were rumors considered unreliable.
To give strength to this historical paradox is a recent Belgian study that examined DNA in saliva samples from 39 relatives of the dictator, finding a fragment of a chromosome common among Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews, but also among the Berbers of Morocco. The study, in fact, does not show that Hitler was Jewish, but confirms – if it were still needed – that the Nazi myth of the Aryan race was totally without foundation.
3 – A special train (or rather two). Although he far preferred the car, Hitler was soon forced by numerous commitments to opt for the faster and safer train. At the end of the 1930s, the Führersonderzug was set up for him, a special train that was an authentic moving headquarters. In reality, the dictator’s trains were two: the first used in peacetime and the second equipped for war, with armored and armed wagons.
The latter was called Amerika and was equipped with anti-aircraft guns. The internal accommodations were comfortable, carefully furnished, but not luxurious because the führer believed a Spartan style more appropriate to the war. The train followed secret routes, yet in 1941 it escaped by a bomb attack.
4 – The mystery of the testicle. Did Hitler have only one testicle? For the authors of the satirical songs whistled by British soldiers in the Second World War, certainly yes. And a proof would be found in the notes of a Polish priest, recently made public, to whom the detail was revealed in the 1960s by Johann Jambor, military doctor who treated the young Adolf during the First World War.
The impairment would have been caused by a splinter that injured him in the groin in the battle of the Somme (France). The doubt, however, remains: the English historian Thomas Weber, based on unpublished documents, today questions whether Hitler was at the forefront of that conflict.
5 – A doll for the troops. Not enduring that his soldiers stationed in France during the occupation “polluted” their Aryan blood with local prostitutes, in 1941 Hitler had a special inflatable doll designed that would satisfy the troops’ wishes.
The instructions were detailed: “fair skin, blond hair, blue eyes, 1.76 m tall and large breasts”. In short, a perfect Aryan woman in a sexy toy version, for which the name of Borghild (a hero of Nordic mythology) was chosen. An allied bombing, however, razed the Dresden factory in charge of production, and so the French brothels continued to do business with the German soldiers.
The story is told by Graeme Donald in the book Mussolini’s Barber: And Other Stories of the Unknown Players Who Made History Happen, but according to some historians it would be a hoax.
6 – Lover of extreme sex. Pornography and sadomasochism seem to have been the basis of Hitler’s sexual fantasies. At least according to the stories of his granddaughter Geli Raubal (who committed suicide in 1931 after a relationship with her uncle). She confessed that “Uncle Alf” forced her to pose naked for him in obscene positions, or to get on all fours and then be spanked with a whip.
Some of these practices were carried out in the name of “magical sex” (a branch of occultism based on sadomasochistic rites), a passion that according to some Hitlers shared with the beautiful Winifred Wagner, daughter-in-law of the composer Richard Wagner. Some doctors later testified that the dictator had testosterone injected to increase his manhood.
7 – King Kong admirer. In addition to painting, Hitler appreciated the cinematographic art. It had several private screening rooms, where it often invited another film buff, Joseph Goebbels. But what were the tastes of the führer? The favorite actress was Greta Garbo, while the actor who hated the most (at least publicly, given that she privately showed her appreciation for his comic talents) was Charlie Chaplin, who in 1940 had scoffed at him in the film The Great Dictator ( in the picture).
Heart film was King Kong (1933). For Hitler, the famous ape was an example of primordial strength: he would borrow the habit of beating his fist on the chest in rallies.
8 – Glasses? No thanks. Hitler did not have what is called an “eagle sight”. To overcome this limit he had a special typewriter built with which every document reserved to him was transcribed. The characteristic of this device (which existed in a single copy jealously guarded by the Gestapo, the political police of the Third Reich) was to use much larger typefaces than usual. A trick imposed by the fact that the führer refused to wear glasses, considered a sign of weakness.
9 – Fanatic of sweets. Due to his precarious state of health and his hypochondria, Hitler undertook numerous diets, during which he deprived himself of alcohol and meat (without ever becoming completely vegetarian). Only one thing he never knew how to say no: sweets. He had a real passion for chocolate and cream. It also sweetened all types of drinks, including water and wine. At the dentist. The gluttony caused him obvious problems with his teeth. But Hitler was doing it like a kid in front of his dentist, the trusted Johannes Blaschke. He later told that the führer had a very low pain threshold: “He died from fear at the mere idea of having to sit on my chair,” he reported. Thus, the bad teeth in the long run caused Hitler to have a constant halitosis.
10 – A talent, but for advertising. At school Hitler was a real donkey and even his adult writings are riddled with grammar errors. As for his career as a painter, he never took off. His artistic vein, however, managed to shine when, at the age of twenty, he ventured into the advertising profession in Vienna. It was a matter of painting billboards to advertise products of various types, such as hair polishes, or shoe polishes, deodorants and detergents.
According to some historians, it was also in this way that he perfected the knowledge of those laws of communication and that they would be useful during the seizure of power, when the advertised “product” was Nazism.

3 – Un tren especial (o más bien dos). Aunque prefería el automóvil, Hitler pronto se vio obligado por numerosos compromisos a optar por el tren más rápido y seguro. La característica de este dispositivo (que existía en una sola copia celosamente guardada por la Gestapo, la policía política del Tercer Reich) era usar tipos de letra mucho más grandes de lo habitual. Un truco impuesto por el hecho de que el führer se negó a usar anteojos, considerado un signo de debilidad.
9 – Fanático de los dulces. Debido a su precario estado de salud y su hipocondría, Hitler llevó a cabo numerosas dietas, durante las cuales se privó de alcohol y carne (sin volverse completamente vegetariano). Solo una cosa que nunca supo decir no: dulces. Tenía una verdadera pasión por el chocolate y la crema. También endulzó todo tipo de bebidas, incluyendo agua y vino. Al dentista La gula le causó problemas obvios con los dientes. Pero Hitler lo estaba haciendo como un niño frente a su dentista, el confiable Johannes Blaschke. Según algunos historiadores, también fue de esta manera que perfeccionó el conocimiento de esas leyes de comunicación y que serían útiles durante la toma del poder, cuando el “producto” anunciado era el nazismo.
